These oversize potholders us a wonderful fabric designed by Jinny Beyer. She desigsn jewel tone fabrics especially for kalaidescope which I use in my pieces.
Kalaidescopes are made by cutting triangular shaped wedges of an exact repeating pattern and sewing them back together like pieces of a pie. Usually 6 or 8 pieces are used. Only certain fabrics work well for this and it is always exciting to see what happens when it is finished. Each is very different depending on where the cut is made. The kalaidescope centers are surrounded by complementary solids that bring out different colors of the design and create a mandala.
The backing is the same fabric as the center and borders.
There are double loops if you want to use this as a wall hanging
