This elegant quilt uses a focus fabric called “elephant walk” by Moda. It is “fussy cut” to make squares to show views of royally clad elephants peeking through rich foliage. The colors are jewel like yet subtle. The outer layer is a dark emerald green shibori to enhance the jungle setting.
Shibori fabric is dyed using a Japanese technique that creates accordion folds of color gradations. This fabric was designed by Paula Nadelstern and is among the softest I have ever felt. It is no longer made so I use it in special projects. Feather stitching in a multicolored thread called jungle brights outline each square. The diamond on point squares have really wonderful little floating elephants, some holding ballloons. This focus fabric is no longer available so this is one of a kind.
