This uses prewashed navy fleece for the center and it has a pocket with a tie. This is a very soft fleece with no nap. There is extra thickness with the batting and fleece so pins will easily hold objects. There are 5 rows of decorative stitching across the center of the bulletin board/ pocket hanging creating visual contrast. The pocket and edges are turquoise blue shibori by Paula Nadelstern. She designed a shibori fabric which is among the softest I have ever felt. Shibori is a Japanese dyeing technique that creates accordion folds of color. Her shibori fabric is no longer made so I only use it in select projects. I used her shibori cut on the perpendicular for one layer and cut on the selvage for the other. This fabric has very different looks depending on where and how it is cut. This piece is not square but curves inward at the top, almost like a little hobbit house.
